You would think that the narrow loss in November was a landslide. The mainstream media would have you believe the Republican party is near extinction. Some Republican leaders earnestly want to step up during the party's time of need. They want to present a new face and a fresh approach, to give the media a nod with some "I get it" contrition and turn the page. These leaders are trying to do the right thing, but their personal ambition and inexperience are making them play into the media's hands. There is not yet a market in the mainstream media or within American punditry that will allow for any Republican resurgence. Note to GOP leaders: Be still, surefooted; things could get worse. I think the fact that President Obama has refused to offer a budget for the government for the next year is underreported. The latest reason the White House gives for the delay is that officials are working on getting it right and they are struggling with the details. Given that all the resources of the federal government are at the president's disposal, this could not be the real reason. The budget is not a pop quiz that they didn't know was coming; the due date is written in the law. Why has the administration been waffling about submitting a budget? The answer must be that offering a budget would reveal things that they don't want revealed. Read full article >>

Well, with today's jobless report we see the drag of the "Obama effect" on employment. The Obama administration and its apologists say that once you get past all the bad news in the jobs report, the news isn't so bad. Sure, GDP is falling and unemployment is rising, but things could be worse. Only the most fawning, docile commentator could continue to make excuses for the president and the Democrats. Before the news of the stunning contraction of gross domestic product in the fourth quarter of 2012 completely evaporates from the headlines, I’d like to offer one more cause of the economic anemia we are suffering from.
