Meet the Team:

Michael P. Meehan, President

Michael Meehan is one of the most sought after political communications strategists in the country. Drawing from his more than twenty year career working on state and federal issues for the nation's Democratic leaders, Michael provides strategic consulting and issues management to BGR's clients around the world. Michael has governmental, political and media experiences in over 25 states and Washington, DC, working on dozens of Congressional and United States Senate campaigns, two presidential campaigns and six congressional and Senate official offices.

From Senate Chief of Staff to top political and communications posts at all three national Democratic Party committees, Michael has held positions of influence in the public policy and media relations arenas. Michael has worked in key advisory positions on the official staffs of four U.S. Senators, including a Senate Majority Leader, as well as two U.S. Congressmen. His expertise spans communications, national media, message development and implementation, polling and election politics.

Before helping to create BGR Public Relations, Michael served as U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell's Chief of Staff, managing a staff of 50 and offices in Washington DC and across Washington state. He was Chief Strategist for Senator Cantwell's 2006 landslide re-election campaign. At the request of Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, Michael served as the campaign manager of the Senate Democrats' "Energy Independence 2020" issue campaign in 2005-2006.

During the 2004 Presidential election, Meehan served as Senior Communications Advisor to Senator John Kerry's successful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination and in the general election. Prior to Kerry's presidential campaign, Michael was the Vice President of Strategy and Politics for NARAL Prochoice America.

Michael served as senior political and communications strategist for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle from 2001-3 and was Daschle's National Political Director from 1997-2001.

At the Democratic National Committee, Michael served in Director of Message Development and Polling where he worked closely with worked closely with senior members of the Democratic House and Senate Caucuses.

Earlier in his career, Michael held a variety of senior communications roles including: Communications Director for U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer of California, 1995; U.S. Rep. John Olver of Massachusetts, 1991-1993; and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, 1993-1995. In addition to the presidential campaign, he has held a number of communications positions with Senator John Kerry including Senate Communications Director, 1995-1997, Massachusetts Senate Press Secretary, 1989-1991 and press intern in 1985.

In the 2000 election cycle, Michael was the Staff Director of Senate candidate recruitment at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee when nine new Democratic Senators were elected. He has worked the past five Democratic National Conventions, is a communication advisor for the upcoming Denver convention and served on the DNC's convention site selection team for the 2004 Boston convention. Michael has done media training for many American political candidates and his international campaign work includes races in Aruba, Antigua, Northern Ireland and Europe.

Recently, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid selected Michael for a Democrat seat on the Broadcasting Board of Governors. On June 26th, 2008, President George W. Bush nominated Michael for a three year term and his position is pending Senate confirmation.

Michael currently serves as the President of BGR Public Relations, LLC. and is the Senior Vice President of Virilion, Inc. a digital media company. In 2008, he started Meehan Strategies, a Democratic political consulting firm, whose clients include the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and other Democratic Senators re-election campaigns. Michael regularly appears as a political commentator and current news expert on cable and broadcast television programs based in Washington, DC.

Michael was named to Roll Call's "Fabulous 50" top staffers on Capitol Hill in 2001. He served as a sports reporter for newspapers in Massachusetts and Maine. Michael graduated Bates College in Lewiston, Maine with a B.A. in political science with a secondary concentration in education, earning his secondary teaching certification. Michael lives in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife, Tovah Ravitz-Meehan and two daughters, Meghan and Hannah.



David Di Martino, Vice President

David Di Martino came to BGR Public Relations, LLC after more than 15 years of communications experience on Capitol Hill and Congressional and Presidential campaigns.

Di Martino served as U.S. Senator Ben Nelson’s (D-NE) Communications Director since 2001and as his Deputy Chief of Staff since 2007. Di Martino served Nelson in a senior political and strategic advisory role on many issues including tax policy, defense matters, judicial nominations and media relations. Before joining Nelson, Di Martino served as transition Press Secretary for U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) following her recount victory in the 2000 elections. He also served as Press Secretary to U.S. Representative Tom Barrett (D-WI) in 1998 and 1999. He served as a professional staff member to the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business in 1997, and in a number of roles on the staff of U.S. Senator John Kerry (D-MA) from 1993-1997.

Di Martino has national campaign experience serving in senior communications roles. Di Martino served as a National Spokesman and Press Secretary during the early primaries for Senator John Kerry’s successful campaign for the Democratic Nomination for President in 2004. Also, Di Martino served as Deputy Communications Director for the Senate Democrats’ campaign arm, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, during the 2000 election cycle when nine new Democratic Senators were elected, including Nelson and Cantwell. Di Martino also worked on U.S. Senator John Kerry’s successful reelection campaign in 1996.

Di Martino serves as Vice President of BGR Public Relations where he focuses on strategic and crisis communications, issues management and business development. Di Martino also assists in strengthening BGR’s bipartisan government relations capabilities by lobbying House Democratic Members and staff.

Prior to Di Martino’s departure from the Senate, Senator Ben Nelson provided these words, “David is one of the most competent and creative communications professionals with whom I have worked, and I will miss his leadership and presence on my staff. His counsel, capabilities, fierce loyalty, writing skills, news media and Capitol Hill contacts and hard work made him invaluable. He has served the state of Nebraska and the United States Senate well.”

David lives near Washington, DC with his wife, Kitty Bartels Di Martino, and spends his free time watching Red Sox games with their three children, Mary, Nora and Tess.
